A priest is a member or a clerical society that performs the religious duties. They are authorised by a church to administer the rites of a certain religion, and specifically, to perform sacred rites of sacrifice to and in the name of a god or gods. Priests are also able to write sacred texts and keep sacred records. They are able to perform miracles or perform other sacred obligations. Priests in some religions are required to swear an oath of obligation. This is a binding obligation to adhere to the doctrines of their religion or to deter anyone from violating their doctrines. Priests are involved in many aspects of the religious life like teaching and counseling and leading prayers or meditation or performing rituals or other activities.

In ancient times priests were the kings and queens of their communities. They were responsible for the upbringing and guidance of the younger people. The role of the priest was not limited to his community alone, but included participation in the communal life outside the church. They also took part in genealogical work, because they kept records of the ancestors of the people they assisted. They had to edit the source documents to make sure the genealogy was accurate.

Diocesan priests typically are ordained for four years at which they earn their education, during which time they are able to serve as a parish priest or accept a full-time position. They will eventually become Bishop, Bishopric Counsellor or even an archdeacon or cardinal. The hierarchy is hereditary, so if your family is a clergy then you will have the possibility of becoming a priest. There is also the possibility of becoming a layperson, meaning you will enter into the clergy if you can prove through baptism that you are of age. To be eligible to be ordained, the majority of dioceses require that you be at least 23 years of age.


Two types of Priests are found in the majority of parishes. There are two kinds of priests: one with general qualifications and the other with special qualifications. General priests are typically required to be of good mental health and must be physically fit. Priests go through a variety of stages in their spiritual lives, from confirmation to ordination. During their confirmation process, they go through spiritual confirmation. This is where they are assessed on their worth as God’s representative on Earth. They are not directly associated with the Holy Spirit however, their role is more administrative in nature. The bishops are responsible for supervising the clergy in their diocese and must adhere to any Vatican decisions. Some Bishops leave the Diocese when they are ordained to start an independent theological school. Once they become a Bishop, they must start their studies as an undergraduate of arts, even though most Bishops are later promoted to doctorate priests.

Priests are of various ages, some older, while others are active and well known within their communities. Priests are required to make many sacrifices for the Lord throughout their lives. They can be a part of Heaven’s Kingdom by rising “just” when they die. As a young man, when they leave their earthly life to attend college or university they must make many sacrifices. In this life they must support their families financially by working and caring for their families. After graduation, however they can experience the joy of God’s promises and become the children and daughters of God and our Father in Heaven becomes our King and Master.
